Clear Autumn Air

After a windy weekend the September sunshine is back and Symi is bustling with the September ‘regulars’.  The weather is mild and sunny without being too hot and there is no rain forecast for the foreseeable future.  The Triton is back on Symi after a season in Rhodes, much to the delight of many Symi visitors and both the Triton and the Poseidon are out on excursions every day. The Agios Emilianos walk is very popular now that the temperatures are at a more reasonable level and the views from the top of island are wonderful in the clear autumn air.

This week the Blue Star ferries change to their autumn schedule and the Tuesday ‘big boat’ is now scheduled to come through on Wednesdays until the end of October.  This may be off to a shaky start this week as a general strike has been declared for 26 September and this will include the dockworkers in Piraeus.  At this stage, however, there is no mention of air traffic controllers being involved.  A very useful website for keeping an eye on things is www.livingingreece.gr.

Many thanks to Dawn Sproson who provided today’s photographs.

Have a good week.

Regards,
Adriana

About this Blog

I sailed into Panormitis Bay, Symi, by chance one windy July day in 1993 and have been here ever since. The locals tell me that this is one of the miracles of St Michael of Panormitis. A BA graduate with majors in English, Philosophy and Classical Civilisation, the idea of living in what is to all intents and purposes an archaeological site appeals to me. Not as small as Kastellorizo, not as touristy as Rhodes, Symi is just the right size. I live on a small holding which my husband and I have reclaimed from a ruin of over-grazing and neglect and turned into a small oasis over the course of the past 22 years. I also work part-time for Symi Visitor Accommodation, helping independent travellers discover and enjoy Symi's simple pleasures for themselves.
